The Punjab Kings got off to a steady start in their chase, with openers KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal putting on 47 runs in the first six overs. However, Mayank Agarwal was dismissed by Rahul Chahar for 21, and that brought Chris Gayle to the crease.
Gayle was in a destructive mood, hitting the ball to all parts of the ground. He hit four sixes and five fours in his innings of 55 off just 28 balls. KL Rahul, on the other hand, played a more sedate innings, scoring 42 off 36 balls.
The Punjab Kings were cruising towards victory, needing just 34 runs off the last four overs. However, Mumbai fought back, picking up quick wickets and putting the pressure back on the Punjab Kings. Krunal Pandya dismissed both Gayle and KL Rahul in the same over, and suddenly the game was back in the balance.
