In June 2021, rumors began circulating that retired boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr. would face off against British reality TV star turned professional boxer, Aaron Chalmers. The matchup caused quite a stir in the boxing world, with many wondering if it was a legitimate bout or just a publicity stunt. Despite the doubts, the fight took place on October 23, 2021, at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle, England, and it proved to be an interesting spectacle.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is considered one of the greatest boxers of all time, with an undefeated record of 50 wins and no losses. He has won world titles in five weight classes and has defeated some of the biggest names in boxing, including Manny Pacquiao and Oscar De La Hoya. Despite being retired, he has continued to be involved in boxing through his promotion company and exhibitions.
On the other hand, Aaron Chalmers is a former cast member of the British reality TV show “Geordie Shore” and a professional mixed martial artist and boxer. He began his professional boxing career in 2018 and has since won four out of his six fights, with two knockout victories. Chalmers’ rise to fame as a boxer has been a controversial one, with many in the boxing community criticizing his lack of experience and skill.
The Mayweather vs. Chalmers fight was initially met with skepticism from many in the boxing community. Many felt that it was simply a publicity stunt and that Mayweather had no reason to fight someone with such little experience. In the end, Mayweather was declared the winner by unanimous decision. The judges scored the fight 80-73, 80-73, and 79-74 in Mayweather’s favor. Despite the loss, Chalmers was gracious in defeat, admitting that Mayweather was on another level and that he had a lot to learn.
The Mayweather vs. Chalmers fight was not without controversy, however. Some fans and pundits accused Mayweather of not taking the fight seriously and of simply going through the motions. Others criticized the event as a whole, arguing that it was a shameless money grab that did little to benefit the sport of boxing.
Despite the criticism, the Mayweather vs. Chalmers fight highlights the growing trend of celebrities and social media influencers turning to combat sports for fame and fortune. While some, like Mayweather, have legitimate backgrounds in combat sports, others, like Chalmers, are relatively inexperienced and have little to no business being in the ring.
