The game remained tied until the bottom of the sixth inning, when the Astros struck again. With two outs and a runner on first base, third baseman Alex Bregman hit a towering home run to left-center field, giving Houston a 3-1 lead.
Toronto wasn’t ready to give up, though. In the top of the eighth inning, shortstop Bo Bichette hit a solo home run of his own, cutting Houston’s lead to 3-2. The Blue Jays threatened to tie the game in the inning, putting runners on first and second with two outs, but Astros reliever Bryan Abreu was able to induce a groundout to end the threat.
The ninth inning saw the Blue Jays mount one last rally. With one out and a runner on first base, Guerrero Jr. stepped to the plate looking to tie the game with another home run. However, Astros closer Ryan Pressly was able to induce a ground ball that resulted in a game-ending double play, securing a 3-2 victory for Houston.
The game was a closely contested battle between two talented teams. Pearson and Whitley both showed why they are highly regarded prospects, pitching well and keeping the opposing batters off-balance. Altuve and Bregman provided the offense for Houston, while Guerrero Jr. and Bichette carried the load for Toronto.
Overall, it was an entertaining game that showcased some of the best talent in the league. Both teams will look to build on their performances as the season progresses, with the Blue Jays looking to make a push for the playoffs and the Astros looking to defend their division title.
