The Carolina Hurricanes, based in Raleigh, North Carolina, are a relatively young franchise, having been founded in 1971 as the New England Whalers. The team moved to North Carolina in 1997 and adopted the Hurricanes name in 1998. Despite being a relatively new team, the Hurricanes have had some notable success in the NHL, including a Stanley Cup championship in 2006.

On the other side of the ice, we have the Buffalo Sabres. Founded in 1970, the Sabres have a longer history than the Hurricanes, but they have not enjoyed as much success in recent years. The Sabres have not made the playoffs since the 2010-2011 season, and they have not won a playoff series since 2007.
