The History of the Tournament
Copa Colsanitas presentado por Zurich was first held in 1998, and it was known as the Copa Colsanitas. It was an ITF (International Tennis Federation) event until 1999 when it became a part of the WTA Tour. The tournament has gone through various changes over the years, and it has had different sponsors.
The tournament has been sponsored by Colsanitas since its inception, and the company is one of the biggest healthcare providers in Colombia. Zurich Insurance Group became the presenting sponsor of the tournament in 2019, and the event was rebranded as Copa Colsanitas presentado por Zurich.
The tournament has been held at the Club Campestre El Rancho in Bogotá since its inception. The venue has a capacity of 4,000 spectators, and it has hosted some of the biggest names in women’s tennis over the years.
