Olympic gold medalist Tony Yoka made the announcement today via Twitter that he will face Carlos Takam on March 11 in his first fight in the professional ring.
This one has some background. After Yoka (11-1, 9 KOs) and Martin Bakole (39-7-1, 28 KOs) were scheduled to fight, the two signed a contract to fight in early 2022. However, Takam (39-7-1, 28 KOs) injured his wrist, allowing Bakole to step in. On paper, Yoka and Bakole appeared to be evenly matched, but Bakole’s first-round knockout set off a rout that even the hilariously biased Parisian judges couldn’t save.
It was an amazing rude awakening for Yoka, however he may as have opportunity and willpower to get the pieces at 30 years of age. This is heavyweight, all things considered.
