On April 7th, 2023, the New York Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles faced off in a regular season game at Camden Yards in Baltimore. Both teams were looking to bounce back from losses in their opening games of the season.

The Orioles had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth inning, when they loaded the bases with two outs. However, Gerrit Cole was able to get out of the jam by striking out first baseman Ryan Mountcastle.
The Yankees added to their lead in the top of the seventh inning, when designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton hit a solo home run to left field. They added two more runs in the top of the eighth inning, when catcher Gary Sanchez hit an RBI single and third baseman Anthony Rizzo hit a sacrifice fly.
The Orioles were able to score one more run in the bottom of the eighth inning, when right fielder Austin Hays hit an RBI double to score center fielder Cedric Mullins. However, Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman was able to shut the door in the ninth inning, striking out two batters to secure the win for the Yankees.
One of the key factors in the Yankees’ victory was Gerrit Cole’s strong outing on the mound. He was able to keep the Orioles’ offense in check for most of the game, striking out eight batters and allowing only one run on five hits. The Yankees will be looking for more strong outings from Cole as the season progresses.
