The score remained tied at 1-1 until the top of the fifth inning when the Tigers scored two runs thanks to an RBI single from Niko Goodrum and a sacrifice fly from Eric Haase. The Yankees managed to cut the deficit in half with an RBI double from Giancarlo Stanton in the bottom of the fifth.
The Tigers extended their lead in the top of the seventh with an RBI single from Akil Baddoo, making the score 4-2. The Yankees once again answered back in the bottom of the inning with an RBI double from DJ LeMahieu.
In the top of the eighth inning, the Tigers scored again with an RBI single from Jeimer Candelario, giving them a 5-3 lead. However, the Yankees came back strong in the bottom of the eighth with a three-run home run from Gleyber Torres, putting them ahead 6-5.
In the top of the ninth, the Tigers had a chance to tie the game with runners on first and second and two outs. However, Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman was able to strike out Jonathan Schoop to end the game and secure the win for the Yankees.
Overall, it was a thrilling back-and-forth game between two teams fighting to stay in the playoff race. The Yankees showed their resilience, battling back from multiple deficits to ultimately come out on top. Torres was the hero of the game, delivering the game-winning home run and going 3-for-4 on the day with four RBIs.
With the win, the Yankees improved to 24-19 and stayed in second place in the American League East, while the Tigers fell to 16-27 and remained in last place in the American League Central.
