In the top of the eighth inning, the Tigers scored again with an RBI single from Jeimer Candelario, giving them a 5-3 lead. However, the Yankees came back strong in the bottom of the eighth with a three-run home run from Gleyber Torres, putting them ahead 6-5.
In the top of the ninth, the Tigers had a chance to tie the game with runners on first and second and two outs. However, Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman was able to strike out Jonathan Schoop to end the game and secure the win for the Yankees.
