As the game progressed into the later innings, both teams’ bullpens came into play. Atlanta’s relievers were able to shut down Detroit’s offense, not allowing a run after the fifth inning. Meanwhile, Detroit’s relievers struggled, allowing two more runs in the top of the ninth inning.
With a 6-3 lead going into the bottom of the ninth inning, Atlanta looked poised to secure the victory. However, Detroit wasn’t ready to give up just yet. They were able to load the bases with two outs, giving their catcher a chance to tie the game with one swing of the bat.
Atlanta’s closer took the mound, hoping to shut down Detroit’s comeback attempt. The tension in the stadium was palpable, with both teams and their fans holding their breath as the pitcher delivered the first pitch. The catcher swung and missed, taking a big cut but coming up empty.
