In an exciting matchup of two of the American League’s top teams, the Minnesota Twins faced off against the New York Yankees in a three-game series from May 25th-27th, 2021.

Game 1 saw the Twins come out on top, winning 7-5 thanks in large part to an excellent outing from starting pitcher Michael Pineda, who allowed just two runs over six innings of work. The Twins offense was also firing on all cylinders, with five different players recording an RBI in the victory.
Game 2 was a much tighter affair, with the Yankees ultimately emerging victorious in a 8-4 win. The game was tied 4-4 heading into the bottom of the 7th inning, when the Yankees exploded for four runs to take the lead for good. Designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton was the star of the game, going 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI.
In the series finale, the Yankees completed the comeback with a 9-6 win over the Twins. New York was once again led by Stanton, who went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI. Twins catcher Mitch Garver put on a show of his own, hitting two home runs in the losing effort.
The series was a prime example of the competitive nature of the American League, with both teams showcasing their potent offenses and deep pitching staffs. The Twins currently sit atop the AL Central division with a 27-20 record, while the Yankees are in second place in the AL East with a 28-21 record.
Despite the loss, the Twins have a lot to be proud of from this series, particularly their ability to hang with one of the best teams in the league.
