In their most recent matchup, the Blue Jays and Orioles met at Camden Yards in Baltimore. The Blue Jays came into the game on a bit of a hot streak, having won five of their last six games. The Orioles, on the other hand, were struggling, having lost four of their last six.
The game got off to a slow start, with both teams struggling to get much going offensively in the early innings. It wasn’t until the fourth inning that the Blue Jays were able to break through, with a solo home run from Teoscar Hernandez giving them a 1-0 lead.
The Orioles were quick to respond, however, with back-to-back home runs from Trey Mancini and Anthony Santander in the bottom of the inning, putting them ahead 2-1. The Blue Jays were able to tie it up in the sixth inning, thanks to a double from Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and a sacrifice fly from Lourdes Gurriel Jr.
The game remained tied until the top of the ninth inning, when the Blue Jays were finally able to break through. With two runners on base and two outs, pinch-hitter Randal Grichuk hit a three-run home run to give the Blue Jays a 5-2 lead.
The Orioles were unable to mount a comeback in the bottom of the ninth, and the Blue Jays secured the victory. The win was a big one for Toronto, as they continued to climb the standings in the American League East.
The Blue Jays were led by strong performances from Guerrero Jr. and Gurriel Jr., who each had two hits and an RBI. Grichuk’s clutch home run in the ninth inning was also a huge factor in the win.
For the Orioles, Mancini’s home run was a bright spot in an otherwise disappointing game. Starting pitcher Jorge Lopez put in a solid performance, allowing just two runs over six innings of work.
Overall, it was a great game between two talented teams. The Blue Jays showed why they’re one of the most exciting teams in the league, while the Orioles showed that they’re a team that can never be counted out. Fans of both teams will be eagerly anticipating their next meeting, which is sure to be another exciting matchup.
